bromoxynil

Trade Name: Bromax, Bromotril, Brotex 240, Brotex 480, Pardner, Koril

Group 6

Site of Action: Inhibitors of photosynthesis at photosystem II, Site B

Symptoms
Injury is confined to foliage that has come in contact with the herbicide.  Low doses of this herbicide mimics phosynthetic inhibitors: yellowing of the leaf margins or tips and yellowing between the leaf veins of broadleaf plants.  High doses mimic cell membrane disrupters: chlorosis and wilting occur within 3-5 days followed by necrosis within 1-2 weeks.  Symptoms occur faster in bright sunlight and high humidity.

Uptake and Translocation

  • Most readily absorbed through the roots.
  • Translocation is upward with the movement of water to leaves where it inhibits photosynthesis.

Persistence

  • Half-life is 5–6 months for 4.4 kg/ha bromacil in a silty loam soil.
