Beekeepers Financial Assistance Program Extended – Ontario Providing Compensation For High Bee Mortality

The Ontario government is extending the Beekeepers Financial Assistance Program for another year as part of a combined effort to build up healthy bee colonies in the province.

The program provides compensation and complements existing programming to help beekeepers whose hives experience high bee mortalities in 2015. In 2014, the program helped beekeepers replace lost bee colonies and build healthy colonies.

Consistent with other kinds of financial assistance, this government action supports a balanced approach that addresses the important roles both pollinators and growers play in Ontario's agri-food industry.

The Beekeepers Financial Assistance Program is part of Ontario's Pollinator Health Strategy and multi-pronged approach to strengthen pollinator health, agriculture and the economy.

Program Details

Under the Beekeepers Financial Assistance Program, Ontario is providing financial assistance of $105 per hive to beekeepers who have at least 10 hives and lose over 40 per cent of their colonies between November 1, 2014 and October 31, 2015.
