Table of ContentsIntroduction IntroductionThe Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) is pleased to present the 2011 Farm Tax and Business Seminar. As in the past, this is an excellent opportunity to update your knowledge of tax, business and legal matters related to agriculture and farm business activities. We are again this year offering the seminar as a Webinar, for those interested in attending the seminar via the web. You can register either by mail, fax or by phone as outlined in the brochure. The registration fee is $175.15 per person (includes HST) on or before October 18th, 2011 and $209.05 (includes HST) per person after October 18th, 2011. Please note that cheques are payable to the "Minister of Finance". Register early, save, and guarantee a seat at the seminar. Resource AuthorsBill Karner, Partner, Taxation, Durwood Jones Barkwell & CompanyBill was born and raised in the Niagara Region and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1996 after graduating from Brock University with a Bachelor of Accounting. As a partner with DJB specializing in the taxation area, Bill provides corporate and personal tax planning advice to clients in the Niagara Area. Bill has a wide range of experience with owner-managed businesses in a variety of industries, including agriculture, hospitality and manufacturing. In addition, Bill has experience in assisting very large corporate clients with tax compliance and tax planning opportunities. As part of his public service activity, Bill has been involved in a number of minor sport organizations. Bill grew up working on his uncle's tender fruit farm located in Fonthill and has developed a practical knowledge of farming that is invaluable when he deals with clients in the agriculture industry. Agricultural Management Institute (AMI)The Agricultural Management Institute (AMI) is funded by the Canada-Ontario bilateral agreement to implement Growing Forward, a Federal Provincial-Territorial initiative. The AMI is part of the Best Practices Suite of programs for Growing Forward in Ontario. The AMI mandate is to develop and promote initiatives that enhance farm business management practices and provide funding for projects to develop business management and risk management tools, products, information, resources, and training for farm families, farm managers, and farm business advisors. The AMI is directed by a 10 member Board of Directors with diverse backgrounds and experience in primary agriculture and agriculture business. Seminar Program
