Ontario Emergency Use Registrations
Emergency use registration of pest control products can be requested of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) by provinces as a result of an identified emergency pest situation. Emergency use registration is a temporary, time-limited measure to help producers manage a crisis pest outbreak. According to PMRA's emergency use directive an emergency exists when the following conditions are met:
- An unexpected and unmanageable pest outbreak or pest situation occurs that can cause significant health, environmental or economic problems; and
- Registered pesticides and cultural control methods or practices are insufficient to address the pest outbreak.
The proponents and the province must provide a compelling and detailed rationale to both PMRA and the provincial ministry of the environment justifying why an emergency exists and why an emergency pest control product registration is required. For more information consult the PMRA's emergency use directive or contact the provincial minor use coordinator.
