Food Safety Research Program

Overview

The Ontario Government has long recognized the importance of food safety research as a tool to better characterize the risk presented by food contamination, to reduce risk through new detection instruments and methods, and to support the development of effective regulations and policies. For this reason, the Ontario Food Safety Research Program (FSRP) was launched (more information)

Call for Letters of Intent 2012-13 - Now Open

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is issuing a Call for Letters of Intent (LOI) for the Food Safety Research Program. The Program is an open, competitive research fund which enhances food safety in Ontario through innovative research. The program addresses the Ministry's Emergency Management Research Theme which seeks to lessen the frequency and impact of agri-food emergencies.

Duration: Up to 2 years in length

Amount: A maximum of $100,000 per project

Deadline for submission: Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. EST.

Research Management System (RMS)

Researchers apply using the Research Management System (RMS), OMAFRA's on-line system for managing and administering Ministry-funded research programs.

If you have previously applied to a research program through the RMS, log in to your Researcher Workbench to access the Call documents and application form.

If you have not previously applied to a Ministry-funded research program through the RMS, you will need to register to create a user file before you can apply:

• Click here if you are a Public Sector applicant (colleges, universities, hospitals and government)
• Click here if you are a Private Sector applicant (from businesses, industry organizations, commodity groups etc.)

The Food Safety Research Forums

The 10^th annual Food Safety Research Forum was held on May 2, 2012 at the Victoria Park East Golf Club, 1096 Victoria Road South, Guelph Ontario. About 130 people attended the event in person and by webex.

2011

The 9th annual Food Safety Research Forum was held on May 5, 2011 at the BEST WESTERN Royal Brock Hotel and Conference Centre at 716 Gordon Street Guelph.

2010

The 8th annual Food Safety Research Forum was held on May 6, 2010 at the Delta Guelph Hotel on 1 Stone Road West. The event was attended by over 150 people from 42 institutions. The Forum comprised 15 presentations and 11 poster exhibits.
