Rural Economic Development Program Announced Projects

Ontario's Rural Economic Development (RED) program is helping rural Ontario generate investment and create jobs. Supporting rural communities is part of the government's economic plan to invest in people, build modern infrastructure and support a dynamic and innovative business climate.

The following projects have been announced through the RED program:

County Project Description (New)
Bruce County The Municipality of Brockton will receive up to $44,575 to complete a community-focused Business Retention and Expansion plan to understand local business issues and trends and help local businesses become more competitive and continue to grow and prosper.
Bruce County The County of Bruce will receive up to $40,000 to develop a framework for the collection and analysis of tourism data.
Bruce County The County of Bruce will receive up to $90,000 to conduct a three-pronged implementation project in the Municipality of Saugeen Shores, Municipality of Huron Kinloss and the Municipality of Brockton including strategy and network initiation, development of toolkit packages and implementation of communications plan.
Cochrane District The Town of Hearst and the Hearst and Area Economic Development Corporation will receive up to $28,000 to develop entrepreneurial community branding, promote entrepreneurship through events, videos, and training materials and will conduct a survey of the regional business succession issues.
Cochrane District The Town of Smooth Rock Falls will receive up to $100,000 to implement marketing initiatives that create awareness of the community and drive new residents to the Town.
Cochrane District The Town of Cochrane will receive up to $20,000 to complete a Community Improvement Plan to provide private and public sector investment incentives and rehabilitate and revitalise designated areas in the community.
Dufferin County The Hills of Headwaters Tourism Association will receive up to $30,000 to implement project activities to support the Arts and Culture Sector Development Framework to position the region as a centre for artistic excellence.
Durham Region The Town of Uxbridge will receive up to $20,000 to implement activities related to the promotion, marketing and outreach to support the downtown business community and residents during the culvert construction.
Durham Region The Brock Youth Centre will receive up to $95,850 to develop a replicable entrepreneurial education program that will be implemented for youth programming in three townships and can expand to include mature youth.
Durham Region The Township of Scugog will receive up to $25,000 to develop a Community Improvement Plan for the Port Perry Employment Area.
Elgin County The County of Elgin will receive up to $15,850 to air promotional tourism advertising videos to attract visitors to the region and increase economic prosperity for local businesses.
Essex County The Town of Lakeshore will receive up to $15,000 to hire a consultant to undertake a Branding and Marketing Strategy for the Town.
Essex County The Canadian Association of Moldmakers will receive up to $100,000 to complete leadership workforce development, productivity improvement assessments, and market and business analysis assistance.
Essex County The Town of Essex will receive up to $10,000 to complete a hotel feasibility study at three different locations to determine the economic viability of a new hotel/motel opportunity.
Frontenac County The Ontario East Economic Development Commission will receive up to $100,000 to create a 3D interactive mapping tool to equip businesses with the ability to determine assets, view geospatial data and virtually see investment opportunities for municipalities and the businesses they serve.
Grey County The Township of Georgian Bluffs will receive up to $13,250 to conduct a market study to evaluate demand for development of a scheduled commercial air service between the Greater Toronto Area and Wiarton-Keppel International Airport.
Grey County Elephant Thoughts Educational Outreach will receive up to $49,750 to contract staff and purchase equipment to start up a new educational centre and related programs.
Grey County The Municipality of Grey Highlands will receive up to $15,000 to hire a consultant to complete an Economic Development Strategy, as well as Community Improvement Plans for seven municipalities.
Haliburton County The County of Haliburton will receive up to $11,000.00 to retain a consultant to develop a plan for a one-stop shopping experience for potential visitors.
Haliburton County Abbey Gardens Community Trust will receive up to $30,000 to rehabilitate a section of a gravel pit into a tourist destination to assist with sector development and economic diversification.
Haliburton County Township of Minden Hills will receive up to $20,000 to prepare an Economic Development Strategic Plan.
Halton Region Acton Business Improvement Area will receive up to $15,000 to prepare a streetscape plan, and marketing plan including website development to achieve long-term stability and growth.
Hastings County The Eastern Ontario Trail Alliance will receive up to $100,000 to rehabilitate the current trail network by grading, adding gravel and new signage.
Huron County The Corporation of the Township of North Huron will receive up to $7,500 to hire a consultant to complete a hotel feasibility study.
Huron County The Municipality of South Huron will receive up to $12,500 to conduct a feasibility study to determine the suitability and capacity of developing a new community hub/recreation facility in South Huron.
Kawartha Lakes The Kawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation will receive up to $35,000 to conduct an economic development impact analysis to establish the interest and impact of an improved Highway 7 and the degree of willingness to augment development.
Kawartha Lakes The City of Kawartha Lakes will receive up to $62,150 to hire a program coordinator to undertake a Business Growth Program that focuses on business attraction, business training and development, marketing, and coordination for the communities of Coboconk-Norland, Fenelon Falls, Lindsay and Omemee.
Kenora District The Hwy 105 Tourism & Marketing Board will receive up to $7,242 to facilitate their name change into existing infrastructure, as well as to expand the marketing footprint into Manitoba, Southern Ontario and the International Market.
Kenora District The Lake of the Woods Development Commission will receive up to $7,500 to develop strategic community tools to assist in attracting young professionals to Kenora for business start ups, expansions and relocations.
Kenora District Lac Seul First Nation will receive up to $76,950 to hire a consultant to complete an optimization and expansion planning project for its sawmill operations.
Lambton County The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership Association will receive up to $20,000 to develop an economic development strategy for Warwick Township that is focused on waste, recycling, reuse and remanufacturing.
Lambton County The Municipality of Lambton Shores will receive up to $75,550 to create a brand and develop a contemporary marketing strategy that positions them as the premier destination to visit, live and work along the Blue Water Coast in Southwestern Ontario.
Lambton County The Municipality of Brooke-Alvinston will receive up to $9,000 to create a Strategic and Economic Development Plan to identify priorities and outcomes for economic development and job creation.
Lanark County The Township of Montague will receive up to $15,000 to complete a Community Economic Development Strategic Plan, to help determine priorities for the municipal government and the community.
Leeds & Grenville County Township of Rideau Lakes will receive up to $37,500 to complete a feasibility study on water and/or wastewater servicing alternatives in the small village context to help drive economic opportunity in Ontario’s small rural villages.
Leeds & Grenville County The Township of Rideau Lakes will receive up to $42,500 to undertake a financial feasibility analysis of the redevelopment of the Village of Portland to help in future investment decisions.
Leeds & Grenville County The United Counties of Leeds Grenville will receive up to $30,750 to hire a contract coordinator to develop a Business Retention and Expansion plan for the County and three of its lower-tier municipalities.
Leeds & Grenville County The Town of Gananoque will receive up to $96,250 to host a series of business workshops, complete market research and work with vacant space property owners to repurpose wasted space.
Leeds & Grenville County The Ferguson Forest Centre will receive up to $12,500 to conduct product research and development as well as development and implementation of a marketing plan to diversify product lines, to help increase revenue sources and retain and enhance rural employment.
Leeds & Grenville County The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority will receive up to $15,000 to rehabilitate a section of the Cataraqui Trail between Chaffey's Locks and Lombardy.
Lennox & Addington County The Town of Greater Napanee will receive up to $50,000 to turn a downtown heritage property into a multi-use community hub with retail, services, institutional businesses and a social enterprise incubator.
Manitoulin District Wikwemikong Development Commission will receive up to $99,846 to conduct research and analysis to support planning and priority-setting to move forward with the development of a sector/market analysis, market research and market strategy for value-added apple products.
Manitoulin District The Town of Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands will receive up to $26,800 to develop a Sustainable Business Plan for the Community Centre that will help guide the future operation of the facility to ensure sustainability.
Manitoulin District The Manitoulin Streams Improvement Association will receive up to $11,326 to create an Enhancement Strategy for Smith Bay Creek to provide direction on ecological, environmental and social/economic benefits to the Lake Huron basin.
Muskoka District The Hunstville Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Huntsville will receive up to $40,000 to deliver the Community Cultural Marketing Initiative to effectively brand and promote Huntsville and Lake of Bays as a cultural destination.
Muskoka District Lake of Bays Marine Museum & Navigation Society will receive up to $24,774 to refurbish the SS Bigwin sail boat to help expand services to three seasons, expand markets, build tourism and create jobs.
Niagara Region The School of Restoration Arts at Willowbank will receive up to $97,743 to upgrade and restore the estate's 1830s mansion as a tourist attraction to assist long-term growth.
Niagara Region City of Port Colborne will receive up to $32,500 to develop a new economic development strategy.
Niagara Region The Town of Lincoln will receive up to $26,500 to create a Local Economic Development Strategy.
Niagara Region The City of Niagara Falls Business Development Department will receive up to $30,000 to work with a consultant to create an Economic Diversification Strategy to outline an approach to guiding Niagara Falls' economy into the next phase and revealing industry strengths in other sectors.
Nipissing District The Municipality of Temagami will receive up to $21,000 to obtain analysis of local business needs in the technological sector to assist with creating an Advancing Access and Business Technologies Strategy.
Northumberland County The Township of Alnwick/Haldimand will receive up to $20,000 to prepare an Economic Development Strategic Plan.
Northumberland County The Township of Cramahe will receive up to $20,000 to re-design the municipal website.
Oxford County The Rural Oxford Economic Development Corporation will receive up to $23,250 to execute a promotional and signage campaign to help create awareness of unused privately owned industrial land and support business growth in Oxford County.
Parry Sound District The Township of Sequin will receive up to $25,000 to co-ordinate a new Strategic Plan for the Parry Sound Area Municipal Airport.
Peel Region The Town of Caledon will receive up to $25,000 to hire a project coordinator to complete a marketing plan for targeted workforce development to help link employers and potential employees.
Perth County The Stratford Public Library Board will receive up to $29,578 to revitalize the historic Carnegie library and purchase technology to provide programs and services to become a complementary community hub and learning space.
Perth County The Town of St. Marys will receive up to $17,775 to develop a Signage and Wayfinding Strategy plan.
Perth County The Municipality of West Perth will receive up to $62,500 to assess options for re-configuring a 24-acre industrial land parcel.
Peterborough County The Federation of Ontario Cottagers' Associations Incorporated will receive up to $18,547 to complete a sector analysis of waterfront property owners to assist future planning in the rural community.
Peterborough County The Municipality of Trent Lakes will receive up to $16,500 to prepare a design concept plan for municipal properties and for a streetscape improvement including the design of a walkway/trail to connect the municipal properties and various green spaces.
Peterborough County The Township of Cavan Monaghan will receive up to $15,350 to develop a Community Improvement Plan for downtown Millbrook to provide incentives to stimulate economic growth and aid in enhancing the physical environment.
Peterborough County The Township of North Kawartha will receive up to $25,000 to prepare a Community Improvement Plan to promote economic development.
Prescott & Russell County The Township of Champlain will receive up to $19,105 to hire a consultant to complete website enhancements in order to attract business investment, increase tourism and allow effective communication for residents.
Prescott & Russell County The Prescott-Russell Community Development Corporation will receive up to $40,660 to hire a business development officer to help with workforce attraction, retention and development.
Prescott & Russell County The Prescott-Russell Tourism Association will receive up to $50,000 to hire a web content manager, launch a tourism website and offer training and marketing packages to local businesses to promote economic growth in the region.
Prescott & Russell County The United Counties of Prescott and Russell will receive up to $24,092 to complete a community-focused Business Retention and Expansion plan to develop strategies to support businesses, retain and create new jobs.
Prescott & Russell County The Township of Russell will receive up to $14,500 to prepare a community profile to attract businesses and investors to the community.
Rainy River District The Rainy River Future Development Corporation will receive up to $19,684 to lead the development and marketing of the town square farmer's market in Fort Frances.
Renfrew County The Township of Whitewater Region will receive up to $50,000 to develop a Community Improvement Plan to support community economic development.
Renfrew County The Town of Petawawa will receive up to $20,000 to develop an Economic Action Strategy to help shape and position economic potential for the community, and guide municipal staff and Council in resource allocation and priorities.
Renfrew County The Town of Renfrew will receive up to $41,941 to create and implement a Business Retention and Expansion plan.
Renfrew County The City of Pembroke will receive up to $5,500 to undertake a competitive advantages study to better understand the benefits of doing business in the community.
Simcoe County The Township of Clearview will receive up to $50,000 to update entrance signage to their community to reflect their new brand logo, and support economic development and tourism in the area.
Simcoe County The Town of Collingwood, will receive up to $85,477 to enhance the Collingwood Youth and Technology Centre (CYATC) programs focusing on youth retention and skills development.
Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry County The Township of North Stormont will receive up to $26,250 to develop a Financial and Corporate Strategic Plan to support the regional economy and future investment needs.
Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry County The City of Cornwall will receive up to $26,487 to redesign and redevelop the ChooseCornwall.ca website.
Sudbury District The Municipality of Killarney will receive up to $45,000 to renovate the Killarney Municipal Museum which has been identified in the Economic Development Strategic Plan as a key tourist attraction and educational centre for the municipality.
Thunder Bay District Matawa First Nations Management will receive up to $100,000 to obtain a tourism development strategic plan for the region to help expand and build local industry.
Thunder Bay District The Willow Springs Creative Centre will receive up to $76,500 to hire a Food Service Business Analyst to offer outreach and training services and collaborate with rural food-related stakeholders.
Thunder Bay District The Marathon Economic Development Corporation will receive up to $50,000 to complete plans and designs for new trail development.
Thunder Bay District The Municipality of Greenstone will receive up to $43,000 to conduct a promotional and signage campaign.
Timiskaming District The Town of Kirkland Lake will receive up to $50,000 to complete a land inventory, site assessments and a Community Improvement Plan.
Toronto Region The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority will receive up to $100,000 towards a manufacturing data management project.
Wellington County The Town of Erin will receive up to $10,000 to promote equine sector development and create a printed equine directory.
Wellington County The Township of Puslinch will receive up to $15,000 to create a logo and branding strategy that aligns with strategic plans to revitalize the Township's identity and public presence.
